GymPal Privacy Policy

The short version. GymPal stores everything you log — workouts, food, sleep, water, weight and progress photos — on your phone, and nothing else. There is no account and no cloud. Your health data is never sold, never shared with advertisers, and never used to target ads.

Who we are

GymPal ("the app") is published by the developer of the GymPal Android application (package com.gympal.app). Contact details are at the bottom of this page.

Data stored on your device

The following stays on your phone. We cannot see it, and it is not uploaded anywhere. Everything except progress photos lives in the app's private storage; progress photos are saved to your device gallery so they are not lost if you reinstall the app (see Photos and media below):

Workout logs — exercises, sets, reps, weights, distances and durations
Food and nutrition logs, including saved favourite foods
Sleep, water and body-weight/BMI entries
Progress photos, including any photo you attach to a day summary — saved to your device gallery
Custom exercises you create, and the NFC tags you link to them
App settings, goals and reminder preferences

Uninstalling GymPal deletes everything in its private storage. Progress photos saved to your gallery stay there until you delete them, either from your gallery or from inside the app. Because your data is only on your phone, we cannot recover any of it for you.

Data that leaves your device

Three things reach the internet, and none of them carry your health logs:

A version check	GitHub Pages (`github.io`)	On launch the app fetches a small file listing the oldest supported version. It is an ordinary web request; it sends no data about you beyond what any web request reveals, such as your IP address.

Advertising

GymPal shows ads from Google AdMob to users on the free tier. AdMob may collect and process device identifiers and similar information in order to serve and measure ads; see how Google uses information from apps that use its services.

Where the law requires it (the EEA, the UK, and certain US states), you will be asked for your advertising choices before the first ad is requested, using Google's consent form. You can reopen those choices at any time from the app's Settings screen.

The ad SDK never receives your health or fitness data. Your workouts, food, sleep, water, weight and photos are not sent to advertisers, are not used to target ads, and are never sold. Subscribers request no ads at all.

Permissions

Photos and media — to let you pick a progress photo, to save your progress photos to your device gallery so they survive reinstalling the app, and to save a comparison or day summary to your gallery when you ask. Photos are re-encoded before saving, which removes camera metadata such as GPS coordinates.
Notifications — for the reminders you turn on yourself. Scheduled and shown on your phone.
NFC — to read a tag you tap on gym equipment so the right exercise opens.

Children

GymPal is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

Your rights and your data

Since your data never leaves your phone, you are already in full control of it. You can delete any entry, photo or custom exercise inside the app, and uninstalling removes everything. There is no account to close and no copy of your data for us to hand over or erase. See our data deletion page for the formal request route.

Changes to this policy

If GymPal starts doing something materially different with your data — for example the optional cloud sync we are building for subscribers — this page will be updated before that feature ships, and you will be asked to agree separately, in the app, before anything is uploaded.
